What’s up with the weather?

My experiences with different weather conditions.

So, I’m in Thailand right now, and it’s the hottest time of the year. Temperatures are in the upper 30’s (Celsius, not Fahrenheit). As a metric system user, I find Fahrenheit weird. What do you mean, 50 degrees is cold? Anyway, let’s get back on topic. Where I am, it’s sweltering. Thank God for air conditioning.

I really don’t mind hot weather. Hot weather means more sunlight, which means more Vitamin D and the last time I checked, vitamins are good for you. As long as you keep hydrated and don’t stay out in the sun for too long, you’re good. On the other hand, you have countries in the Middle East where temperatures go up to 40 degrees, which sounds like a nightmare.

In my home country, Kenya, the weather is pretty…boring? We have two seasons, the dry season and the rainy season. Temperatures hover between 20 and 30 degrees for most of the year. We don’t have regular cyclones or monsoons or anything like that (which is a good thing, I guess). If temperatures dip below 18 degrees, locals start complaining about ‘hii baridi. ‘As, Kenyans, we’re pretty spoiled weather-wise. Especially compared to other places in the world.

Earlier this year, there were snowstorms in the US that were so bad that airplanes couldn’t travel. That is wild. I’m not a cold weather person at all. I went to university in a town called Exeter, in the south of England, and I would wear four to five layers of clothing during winter. I could go up to six layers if I needed to go outside. Somehow, the cold still managed to penetrate, especially at night. The cold stung, let me tell you. Keep in mind that I was living in the warmest part of the country. In some other parts of the world, like Canada, temperatures go down to -30 degrees. The thought of going through that every winter terrifies me.

Cold weather has so many issues. Yeah, snow looks beautiful and all, but wait until you have to shovel your driveway only for your car to have problems starting because of the cold. Snow and frost can ruin travel plans, cause power to go out and make you spend more on heating just to keep yourself from freezing. Though, as a kid, the idea of having snow days when you can’t go to school sounded fun to me.

Anyway, how’s the weather where you are? Hot? Cold? Somewhere in the middle? Whatever it is like, appreciate what’s good about it and don’t let the bad stuff let you down.
