Makeup: A man’s perspective

Just some thoughts on products that I don’t use.

So I’m a guy. I don’t use makeup. But there are important people in my life, like my mom and my sister, who do. As I result, I’ve discovered more about the world of makeup, which is quite intriguing. I find it interesting how there are entire sections of malls and shopping centres dedicated to products I’ll never use.

I really admire how women take time to make themselves look good. I learned from my sister that putting on makeup is so much more than just lipstick and eyeliner. Apparently, there’s a whole first preparation phase. Then there’s powder (I think it’s called foundation? Or is that something different?). There are all these different things ladies put on to finish the process. The fact that ladies do all this and are still productive members of society is commendable.

But I do have some questions. Apparently, there’s a product called a lip plumper that makes someone’s lips look fuller, and it stings when you apply it. I ask this purely out of concern: is this safe?

The next thing I’m gonna mention technically isn’t makeup, but it’s makeup adjacent. My mom told me that to make nail polish dry and stay on for longer, salons have this ultraviolet (UV) radiation machine that ladies can put their nails under. I asked my friends about this and they confirmed it. One time when my mom was getting her nails done at a house where we were staying, I actually saw the machine, which was a grey, rectangular contraption . Now ultraviolet radiation is dangerous. Earth’s ozone layer protects us from the Sun’s UV rays. So is the UV machine safe? How does one go about purchasing one? Is there another way to make nail polish dry quickly and stay on for longer? Again, I’m asking this purely out of concern.

Anyway, that’s all the thoughts I have about makeup. In case anyone is wondering, the average guy’s self-care routine is much simpler.
